The Orange Pigeon relies on donations and fundraising to make wishes come true, so these generous gifts are critical to ensuring we can commit to the long-term funding required for wishes and comforts.

 

Who can leave a gift in their Will?

People from all walks of life can leave gifts to The Orange Pigeon. Not all gifts come from wealthy people - your gift, combined with those from other supporters, will make a powerful impact to seriously ill adults. People might choose to leave a gift to The Orange Pigeon after taking care of their loved ones as they see what a wonderful difference a gift in their Will could make to other seriously ill adults.

 

 

How to leave a gift in your Will

There are many ways you can leave a gift to The Orange Pigeon in your Will after you have looked after the people you care about. A gift in your Will is a simple and powerful way to provide ongoing support to the causes closest to your heart. Writing a gift to The Orange Pigeon into your Will has little or no impact on your lifestyle today and allows you to being some happiness into the lives of seriously ill adults.

 

Making a Will

It is important for everyone to have a Will to take care of the people and causes important to them.We recommend that you seek legal advice when preparing or updating your will.

 

Types of Gifts

There are many ways you can leave a gift in your Will, or a 'bequest' as they are sometimes known. Your solicitor or financial advisor can help you make the choice that's right for you. Some of the options you may like to consider include:

 

Percentage Shares: a gift of whatever is left of your estate (or a percentage thereof) after you have made gifts to family and friends. This type of gift is also known as a residuary bequest and as it's not a specific amount of money, keeps its value regardless of inflation.

 

Specific sum of Money: also known as a pecuniary bequest, this is a gift of a set dollar amount determined by you at the time of making or changing your Will.

 

Specific Bequest: a gift of a specific item, for example property or shares.

 

Suggested wording

Leaving a gift to The Orange Pigeon in your Will is simple, however we do recommend you seek advice from your solicitor when making or updating your Will. Here are some suggested wordings for you and your solicitor to consider when updating your Will:

 

Residuary bequest: I give, devise and bequeath to The Orange Pigeon Inc. (insert the State or Territory in which you live) free from all duties, the following ______ percentage OR the remainder of my estate and direct and declare that the receipt of the Secretary or other authorised officer of The Orange Pigeon Inc. shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors/Trustees.”

 

Pecuniary bequest: I give devise and bequeath to The Orange Pigeon Inc. (insert the State or Territory in which you live) free from all duties, the following $______ amount and direct and declare that the receipt of the Secretary or other authorised officer of The Orange Pigeon Inc. shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors/Trustees.”

 

Specific bequest: I give, devise and bequeath to The Orange Pigeon inc. (insert the State or Territory in which you live) free from all duties, the following _________ item/s and direct and declare that the receipt of the Secretary or other authorised officer of The Orange Pigeon Inc. shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors/Trustees.”.
