Stacie's Wish

A very special Christmas Day wish came true for one of our recipients Stacie. Stacie was in the end stages of Breast Cancer and unfortunately couldn't participate in a holiday or night away. Her only wish was that her 3 children - (9 year old twins (boy and girl) and her 14 year old son) - have a happy Christmas.

Every parent loves the joy of watching their children unwrap presents on Christmas day, this year it’s so much more important for Stacie as her prognosis was very poor. She had been so unwell she hasn’t had the opportunity to do Christmas shopping for her children. So after receiving her application from her breast care nurse at the McGrath Foundation, the team at The Orange Pigeon set a plan into action of making not only Stacie’s Christmas special but for her children’s too.

It was suggested that bikes would be not only an awesome gift but a practical one too so that once Stacie passes, the children still have a way to get to and from school.  We spoke to Poppy from Big W in Darwin, who went above and beyond what any Customer Service officer would normally do and personally handpicked bikes and helmets to suit the children and placed beautiful bows around them to ensure their gifts were that little bit more special. She was very touched by Stacie’s wish and through some tears offered to help in any way she could.

The bikes and a hamper filled with lots of goodies was delivered to Stacie on Christmas Eve - The compassion of one extraordinary Customer Service Officer has certainly brought meaning to the Magic of Christmas.

The bikes pictured above is what the children had received. Sadly Stacie passed away a few days after Christmas, but was very happy seeing her children so happy.

                                                                               RIP Stacie 29 July 1978 - 3 January 2015
